HammondWiki - Oiling The Leslie

You only need a drop, a tiny drop at that, about once a year. Remember a little oil goes a long, long, long, long way. Do not use 3-in-1! Call HammondSuzuki and order our Leslie oil. I know of no light oil that you can buy in a hardware store or sewing machine shop that is light enough.

HammondOil is said by many to be interchangeable with Leslie oil.

The above refers to the Leslie rotary horn (maybe on just the new HammondSuzuki Leslies?), but neglects to mention lubrication of the motors. The motors of the classic Leslies require periodic lubrication by application of several drops of oil to the two felts in each of the (up to) four motors. The felts should be saturated without dripping, using either "approved Leslie oil" or just about any 10W machine oil. The oil specification is not as stringent as that for Hammond organs since there are no wicks involved. Annual lubrication is typical, but more or less may be appropriate according to the amount of use and dust conditions. Lubrication requires removal and dismantling of the motor stacks to access most of the felts.
