The *driving gears* are brass gears mounted on the main drive shaft of the ToneGenerator. These gears are connected to the drive shaft through a resilient CoilSpring to absorb vibrations caused by any irregularities between the driving gears* and the bakelite DrivenGears. There are 48 *driving gears, one for each pair of driven gears.
